About the Event

To celebrate Migratory Bird Week, Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre has curated a unique art exhibition and series of immersive workshops showcasing the beauty and fragility of Australia’s migratory shorebirds.

Contextual Information: 37 species of migratory shorebirds regularly visit Australia on their arduous journey from the Northern Hemisphere each year. But sadly, because of the destruction of their habitats, hunting, and disturbance, their numbers have declined greatly. At the exhibition, visitors can delve into the fascinating behaviours of migratory shorebirds and discover the proactive measures being undertaken to protect these invaluable species.

The exhibition comprises of a series of delicate watercolour paintings, intricately crafted textiles, immersive activities, engaging talks and family-friendly games.

Entry to the exhibition is free and can be viewed by the general public between 9.00am - 12.00pm from the 11th - 18th May at Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre in Wembley.

As part of the Shorebird Exhibition Week festivities, there are also several stand-alone events, including a nature journaling workshop, a lino-printing workshop and a guided Birdwalk on the 19th of May. These events are separately ticketed and are available to book through the WA Gould League website.

Don't miss this rare opportunity to connect with nature and explore the wonders of migratory shorebirds!
