About the Event
DETAILS: The wonderful team from West Oz Wildlife are coming to Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre for the first time, and they are bringing some native animal friends with them! Meet a koala, a few different species of pythons, a bobtailed lizard and a dingo. The two keepers will present each animal separately, where children will learn about the basic dietary requirements of each animal, where they live and why they look the way they do. They will discuss the particular habits and environmental needs of each species, investigate their habitat and discover ways to protect them, endangered species, special features to help survival in the wild, offspring, snake safety and much more.
After this, it gets very hands-on! All children get the opportunity to get up close and personal with all of the wildlife, can pat all animals, have photos taken, and hold all of the reptiles.Â
There will then be short recess while we prepare the room for a fun craft activity that links to the visting animals. During this time you are welcome to explore the centre, browse the gift shop or grab a treat from our barista coffee window Twitchers.
Maximum of 30 participants.
DURATION: The session runs for two hours, but guests have full access to the discovery centre and grounds and are welcome to enjoy a picnic on the lawns.
AGES: Best suited for ages 4-12, but all welcome.Â
WHAT TO BRING: We recommend bringing a hat, water-bottle and closed-in shoes.
PRICE: $35 per participant (parents and carers free of charge). Friends of the WA Gould League (our membership program) recieve 15% off all School Holiday Adventures.
Please note that this is NOT a drop-off programme, and all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Parents and carers are welcome to make use of the coffee window, lakeside seating & free Wi-fi.
