About the Event

Every April 22, people celebrate Earth Day to show how much they care about the planet. Many people use the day to do projects that will help the Earth or raise much-needed awareness.

The Discovery Centre is running a special printmaking workshop this school holidays for creative kids that care about the environment! Pick up some easy tips on how you can protect our beautiful planet, then create a one-of-a-kind themed artwork to take home.

Led by visual artist Leigh Patterson-Kane, learn printmaking techniques on a soft-carve lino block, which is easier to manipulate than traditional lino, then print one or more designs on to a watercolour background. Work by yourself, or collaboratively with friends, family or new buddies to incorporate a series of designs into the one artwork!

The good news is that parents have the option to participate in this workshop, making it a great bonding opportunity! This fun and exciting experience is ideal for older children, teenagers and adults; however it is not recommended for younger children, as carving tools need a higher level of care and control.

*Please note this is not a drop-off program, and adult supervision is required. Parents and carers are welcome to get involved in the workshop itself, or make use of the immediate grounds, coffee window and free Wifi.

Date: Tuesday 18th April, 10am-12pm (separate to the official Earth Day celebrations).

Cost: $35 per participant, includes all art materials. Parents and carers not participating in this workshop are free of charge.

Location: Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre, Wembley.

Experience Needed: None; perfect for beginners. Best suited for ages 9+.

What to Bring: Please have enclosed footwear and remember to dress for mess, or bring an old shirt or art smock.

Friends of the WA Gould League receive a 15% discount off the ticketed price by signing into their membership upon checkout.
