Go the mighty eagles!

September 28, 2018

The West Coast Eagles champion mascot, Eddie, is none other than Australia's largest flying land bird: the Wedge-tailed Eagle.

These majestic birds live all over Australia, but are rarely seen in Perth with known pairs found around the Perth Airport and Jandakot, but are more often seen in the hills along the Darling Scarp. You can see the West Coast mascot, Aussie the Eagle fly around Optus stadium at the beginning of games.

Go Eagles!!

Did you know?

  • Female Wedge-tailed Eagles like Aussie can be up to 50% bigger than males!

  • You can tell how old a Wedgie is by the colour of the feathers. The darker the feathers, the older the bird.

  • The wingspan of a Wedgie can be over 2m long!
