The Competition..

We are passionate about encouraging community members to use their voice, and their talents, to champion our local environment.

In conjunction with our Return to the Old Gould League Event, Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre is hosting a 2026 "Heart of Gould" art competition & exhibition.

The competition is open to any local artist, no matter the medium (painting, print making, sculpture etc) or style, and all works will be judged and awarded amongst 3 categories:

- Birds

- Landscapes

- Flora & Fauna

Submissions are open for artists, from the 1st of April, and close on the 5th June. All successful works will be displayed to public in the centre's function room over two weekends (27th & 28th June, 4th & 5th July) and subject to availability, through the week. Award winners for each competition category will be announced on the exhibition closing.

All works submitted must be mounted/framed, ready for hanging, by the artist. Submissions by artists must specify the category they wish to be judged in, a description (along with dimensions) of their work, previous examples of work and if the artist wishes to sell their piece/s as part of the exhibition. Each submission must be made by email, and inclusion in the exhibition is at the discretion of the WA Gould League. A maximum of one submission per category, per artist applies.

Please read the Competition Full Terms & Conditions  before submitting an entry.
