Nyungar Incursion:
Treat your students to an excursion experience, where they can 'go walkabout'
within your school grounds with Nyungar guides and experience the life
of traditional Nyungar living. Students will participate in a series of
'hands-on' indigenous learning experiences (approx. 30 min each) in a
rotational program.

Dreaming Discovery (half day):
Suitable and tailored for Early Childhood to Late Adolescence. Discover
how the Nyungar people lived in harmony with the land and wildlife around
them. Experience the world from the perspective of the Nyungar people
and learn valuable survival tips as you explore the swamp.

Bush Tucker: Students will pass through the smoke in
a traditional Nyungar welcome ceremony, learn and identify local indigenous
foods and medicinal plants as they experience the local wetland on a bush-tucker/bush-medicine
guided walk and prepare, cook and taste a range of traditional Nyungar
foods on an open fire.

Nyungar Dance: Students will pass through the smoke
in a traditional Nyungar welcome ceremony, an ancient custom to set the
stage of openness and unity. Be amazed as the Nyungar dancers communicate
their stories through the universal language of dance. The dancers will
then workshop with the students tutoring them in Nyungar dance moves,
body painting and messages. Students will have the opportunity to develop
their skills and share their own stories in dance with other class-members.

Ngoogenboro Kudajin Boodja (Herdsman Lake Learning Ground):
Finding Indigenous issues a bit hot to handle? This learning experience
is designed to guide Indigenous and non-indigenous students through current
issues in a culturally sensitive way with input, sharing of experiences,
story-telling and guidance from local Nyungars in a number of school incursion
and excursion experiences.

Djinoong Nyungar Wirrin Boodja Tour (Look at the Spirit of the
Land): A guided tour of sacred Nyungar sites in the Perth region.
This half-day or full-day guided tour of the significant Nyungar sites
around the Perth Metropolitan region is designed to emmerse students in
a sensory experience of Nyungar land, to appreciate traditional Nyungar
culture and practice and the importance and relevance of Nyungar culture
today.

Swamp Safari:
Dare to follow your guide as you enter into the swamp wilderness, where
the Tiger Snake and Swamp Harrier rule and the Tortoise, Gilgie and Motorbike
Frog hide. Listen, taste, feel, see, smell the different ecosystems and
habitats of the swamp creatures and learn Nyungar names such as 'Yanchep'
and 'Nookenburra'.

Water Quality Testing: Water Quality Testing is an ideal
practical activity where students gather their own records of water quality
measurements at Herdsman Lake . Students take pH, temperature, turbidity
and salinity (Electrical Conductivity) measurements of the lake. Sample
data is collated and interpreted to give a snap-shot of the water quality
at Herdsman Lake.

Poo Science: Scientists have to get their hands dirty! Builds on
Whose Poo? activity. Students use the
many types of wildlife scats as a focus to identify, observe and discuss
the different wildlife and habitat.

For schools: A full day of hands-on exciting environmental and
indigenous activities in a rotary program with a Wildlife theme and links

its time to call in the experts! Students are Poo Detectives.

Froggy Fun: Listen and learn to recognise frog species from their
calls. Mimic the different sounds of our local frogs and try to get them
to fall in love with you as you romp through the swamp (day or night).
Stop the Toad: Turn your students into Wildlife Warriors and join
the rest of the SandGropers with war on the Toad. Students will learn
about the invasion of the green peril and get activated in your school
with hands on practical solutions to prevent the Cane Toad from invading
our own back yard.

Snakes Alive: prepare yourself for a close encounter
with a range of live venomous snakes on display and overcome your phobias
as you dare to touch a snake. Learn from professional snake handlers about
living with snakes, venomous snake identification, first aid for snake
bite and then enter the lair of Herdsman Lake s Tiger Snake on our
famous Swamp Board Walk.

Get up close and personal with these majestic birds and see why they rule!
with a live Raptor presentation with a Raptor expert. Then see if you
can spot our own Swamp Harrier, but be careful as he searches for something

Icky Sticky Frog : (Children's Book Week): Celebrate Children's
Book Council of Australia's Book Week theme "One World Many Stories"
with a book reading from The Icky Sticky Frog (Salina Yoon) and then go
for a real Swamp Safari

All WA Gould League learning programs are fully supervised by our wildlife
educators and fully compliant with Department of Education Excursion Policy.
These programs are based on the Curriculum Framework and cater for all
levels. All programs are interactive and activity-based and have been
developed by qualified and experienced teachers. The philosophy behind
the activities at Herdsman Lake Wildlife Centre is to allow for the different
learning styles of students and to cater for Multiple Intelligences.
