Learning Experience tailored for: Early to Middle Childhood (Yypically Years K-7)
 
DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITY: prepare yourself for a close encounter with a range of live venomous snakes on display and overcome your phobias as you dare to touch a snake. Learn from professional snake handlers about living with snakes, venomous snake identification, first aid for snake bite and then enter the lair of Herdsman Lake's Tiger Snake on our famous Guided Swamp Board Walk.
    At the end of this activity students will:
  • Be able to identify common snakes of Western Australia
  • Appreciate how snakes fit into the natural ecosystem
  • Experienced and describe the flora and fauna of the Tiger Snake habitat
  • Have participated in and demonstrated the fundamentals of snake bite first aid
  • Overcome their fears and touched a snake
  • Describe snake adaptations to their environment
  • Appreciate snakes as native fauna and demonstrate awareness regarding the care of them and their natural habitat

TIME: 1.5 hr Morning or Afternoon sessions (1 hr with Snake Handler and live snake handling and presentation and 30 min Guided Swamp Walk). Students and teachers are then welcome to stay for Morning Tea/Lunch/Afternoon Tea and then continue their own exploration of the swamp along the different walk-paths around the lake.
   
COST:
$10.00/student, teachers and parents FREE. Minimum of 30 students ($300)
