IDEAL SCHOOL INCURSION EXPERIENCE FOR HARMONY / NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islanders Day of Celebration) WEEK

Experience tailored for: early childhood to late adolescence (K-12)

Description: Treat your students to an excursion experience, where they can 'go walkabout' within your school grounds with Nyungar guides and experience the life of traditional Nyungar living. Students will participate in a series of 'hands-on' indigenous learning experiences (approx. 30 min each) in a rotational program.

Nyungar Tool making
Discover how the Nyungar people used natural materials to make tools such as stone axes and make your own.

Nyungar Dance and Story-telling
With no written language the Nyungars were expert communicators and educators : Learn to become one with nature around you. The ultimate in student motivation - learn or go hungry!

Nyungar Hunting - Boomerang throwing
Learn how to hunt the Nyungar way - does your Boomerang come back?

Bush-Tucker and Bush Medicine
Learn the secrets of survival in the swamp - try bush-tucker and bush medicine. Go 'walkabout' around the school to find your own bush-tucker.

Nyungar Graffiti
Forget spray-cans! Learn the Nyungar way of signing your 'Tag' and paint your Nih' (signature).
Schools will keep a copy of class Nih's/student rock art .

Nyungar Know How
Examine Nyungar artefacts, discuss and explore their uses from ceremonial uses, and methods of communication to everyday hunting and gathering uses.

Smoking Ceremony
Encompass the culture and spirituality of the Nyungar people. Let the smells and sights foster the harmony of the Nyungar culture.

Nyungar camp food
Forget Big Mac's - this is Mac Skippy! Have a taste of BBQ Kangaroo and Traditional Damper. Each student will receive a small piece of Kangaroo on a piece of traditional damper. (additional $3/student for this experience).

Nyungar Survivor
So you are a Survivor Fan? Well now is your chance to train up! Learn the Nyungar art of building a shelter (Mia Mia) using the natural materials around you.

Eight (8) Integrated Learning Experiences including: 'Smoking Ceremony' & 'Nyungar Graffiti'

9 x Learning Experiences = $18.00/student (Teachers/Parents free). Includes Nyungar Camp Food (taste of kangaroo and traditional damper) ‘Smoking Ceremony’ & ‘Nyungar Graffiti’ including teacher resource pack and student paintings and artefacts.
