Description of Event: A full day of hands-on exciting environmental and indigenous activities in a rotary program with a Wildlife theme and links to SCI/SOSE learning areas. Learning experiences suitable for students from Early Childhood to Early Adolescence. Herdsman Lake Wildlife Centre can accommodate Whole School bookings (max 250 students/day) or school class bookings.

MudnMinibeasts
With Scoop-net and bucket hunt for mini-beasts in the swamp. What weird creature have you got? Describe how it moves. What do you think it eats? What does it look like when it grows up?
 
WingsnBeaks
"Whoa! That's one freaky looking bird!" A wetland safari with a difference, focusing on wetland bird habitats, their feeding habits and discovering what adaptations suit them to their environment.
 
Froggy Fun
Listen and learn to recognise frog species from their calls. Mimic the different sounds of our local frogs and try to get them to fall in love with you by singing their song on our Swamp Safari.
 
Eagle Rock
Rock with the Raptors. Tremble before the Lords of the swamp! Get up close and personal with these majestic birds and see why they rule! Raptor experts will explain why these animals are the top carnivore and see our own Swamp Harriers in action, hunting over our lake.
 
Smoking Ceremony

Encompass the culture and spirituality of the Nyungar people. Let the smells and sights foster the harmony of the Nyungar culture.

Love the Game? Play it for real! The ultimate cure for snake phobia! Get up close and personal with a range of snakes and learn how snakes live and how to live with them!
 
Nyungar Tool making
Discover how the Nyoongar people used natural materials to make tools such as stone axes and make your own.
 
Nyungar Hunting and Bushtucker
Learn the secrets of survival in the swamp - find bush-tucker and try bush medicine as you wander through the swamp on our swamp boardwalk.

NB: Teacher In Charge: Click here regarding our risk minimisation and excursion policy. (under Bookings) NB: Herdsman Lake Wildlife Centre does not come under the Departments Water Based Excursion Policy. Teachers will receive a Freshwater Festival Resource Kit, 1 week prior to event, including Teacher classroom resources, their own individual school group program for the day, a map of the area and instructions for bus drivers.
