About the Event

Join the Celebration of World Wildlife Day 2022 at the Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre, Sunday 6th March for their March Family Nature Day! The theme of ‘Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration’ will be highlighted on this day, with a focus on the plight of frogs, particularly in urbanized landscapes.

The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species states that 41% of amphibians globally are threatened with extinction. Wetland health is crucial to their survival, and Herdsman Lake provides an urban refuge for six frog species including the Western Banjo frog, Motorbike frog, Slender tree frog, Clicking froglet (Crinia glauerti), the Squelching froglet (Crinia insignifera) and possibly the Moaning frog.

Have an opportunity to learn more about wetland health, get hands-on scooping the lake for aquatic invertebrates, participate in guided nature walks, and enjoy a frog-feeding session and informative presentation. A drawing/ colouring competition will also be held on the day with a fantastic Family Zoo Pass, and frog showbag up for grabs!!

When it’s time for a rest, enjoy a spot of birdwatching on the verandah with a Barista coffee and treats from the Twitcher’s coffee window, and enjoy the stunning natural surroundings.

Bookings are essential. Entry is $10 per person, $30 per family or FREE for Friends of the WA Gould League

Please note a COVID event plan will be in place – physical distancing, sanitization measures, proof of vaccination, contact registers and increased indoor ventilation will be in place, with the majority of the event held outdoors in open space.

Can’t wait to see you there!
