Learning Experience tailored for: early childhood to late adolescence
(K-12)
Description of Learning
Experience:
Herdsman
Lake Wildlife Centre, in partnership with Yelakitj
Moort, is proud to offer an exciting cultural (Aboriginal) and
environmental Integrated Learning Experience:
'Dreaming
Time Discovery':
An ancient Nyungar wetland experience
Treat your students to an excursion to Herdsman Lake, where
they can 'go walkabout' with their Nyungar guides and experience the
life of traditional Nyungar living. Students will participate in a
series of 'hands-on' indigenous learning experiences (approx 30 min
each) which have been arranged in a rotational program.
Choose either a morning or afternoon half-day experience (2.5 hrs
of guided 'hands-on' activities) |

Learn how to hunt the Nyungar way - have a go at spearing your
own kangaroo! |

and Bush Medicine
Learn the secrets of survival in the swamp - try bush-tucker
and bush medicine as you wander through the swamp on our swamp
boardwalk. |

Graffiti
Forget spray-cans! Learn the Nyungar way of signing your 'Tag'
and paint your Nih' (signature). Schools will keep a copy of
class Nih's |

Know How
Examine Nyungar artefacts, discuss and explore their uses from
ceremonial uses, and methods of communication to everyday hunting
and gathering uses. |

Encompass the culture and spirituality of the Nyungar people.
Let the smells and sights foster the harmony of the Nyungar
culture. |

Forget Big Mac's - this is Mac Skippy! Have a taste of BBQ Kangaroo
and Traditional Damper. Each student will receive a small piece
of Kangaroo on a piece of traditional damper. (additional $4/student
for this experience). |

Survivor
So you are a Survivor Fan? Well now is your chance to train
up! Learn the Nyungar art of building a shelter (Mia Mia) using
the natural materials around you and then have a go at lighting
a fire the Nyungar way. |

$18.00/student includes taste of kangaroo and traditional

Minimum charge = $450 (or 30 students)
30 students - 60 students. Maximum of 30 students/ Integrated
Learning Experience.
2.5 hrs of guided 'hands-on' activities, groups are then
free to continue to enjoy the traditional wetland surrounds.
Six (6) Integrated Learning Experiences including: 'Smoking Ceremony',
'Nyungar Graffiti' and a choice of four (4) of the other Learning
experiences listed above.

Based Excursion Policy.
All Integrated Learning Experiences will have a Nyungar Guide/Leader. Teachers
are responsible for class supervision.
WA Gould League acknowledges the traditional Nyungar landowners
of Herdsman Lake and the partnership of Yelakitj
Moort in providing these unique Nyungar experiences.
